For years, Philadelphia has been on the verge of becoming known for its crypto scene. There have been several successful Web 3.0 adjacent meetups over the past decade. From The Philadelphia Ethereum Meetup to Media Bureau to yours truly, DeFi Philly, a host of meetups have taken Philadelphia to the next level, passing the torch along the way.

In 2023, three predominant meetups are lighting the way for the city of sisterly and brotherly love.
In no particular order, those meetups are:
- DeFi Philly
- NFT Philly
- Bitcoin Jawn
DeFi Philly
One of the most popular meetups in Philadelphia is DeFi Philly. This group focuses on the rapidly-growing field of decentralized finance (DeFi), which uses blockchain technology to create new financial systems that are open, transparent, and accessible to everyone. Meetups typically feature presentations from industry experts, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. DeFi Philly is a great place to learn about the latest developments in this exciting field and connect with like-minded individuals.
DeFi Philly has a regularly occurring set of meetups, including Coffee and Crypto, on Tuesdays from 11-1 pm in the Giant on 23rd and Arch. They also host the Philadelphia chapter of CryptoMondays once per month. Additionally, they host an annual conference in July, which includes speakers from all over the world. DeFi Philly was started about three years ago by Mike Ghen, founder of Ricochet Exchange. Lastly, DeFi Philly is the city’s longest-running crypto meetup, and the team hosts 100 meetups a year.
NFT Philly
Another popular meetup in Philadelphia is NFT Philly. As the name suggests, this group focuses on non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital assets that are digital representations of a unique asset. NFT Philly Meetups typically feature presentations on the latest trends and innovations in the NFT space and opportunities to fellowship with other NFT frens interested in tech, art, and vibing. NFT Philly is a great place to learn more about this rapidly-evolving field and connect with other NFT enthusiasts.
Last August, NFT Philly hosted WAGMI at Vesper, which had several hundred guests from all over the east coast attend. WAGMI was a unique opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest trends and innovations in the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) world. The event featured discussions with industry experts, art from King Saladeen, and a Philly Shilly hour where anyone from the community who wanted to pitch their project could come up to the mic and participate. Attendees shared their insights and experiences on the current state of the NFT market. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a lively discussion on the latest trends and developments in the NFT space.
Bitcoin Jawn
Bitcoin Jawn is a meetup for the Bitcoin community in Philadelphia. The group is focused on the “original” cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and its underlying technology, blockchain. Meetups typically feature presentations from industry experts, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Bitcoin Jawn is a great place to learn more about Bitcoin and blockchain technology and connect with other enthusiasts. Bitcoin Jawn is the newest crypto meetup in the city but already has up to 60 people registered for their events. Just avoid getting caught wearing an Ethereum shirt there. It is Philly, after all.
The last meeting included Dave Porter from the Satoshi Action Fund. Porter has been featured in Forbes, Morning Brew, and Politico for his commentary on Bitcoin mining initiatives.
In Conclusion
Philadelphia is home to a thriving cryptocurrency community, with various meetups and events catering to different interests and levels of expertise. Whether you’re a seasoned crypto veteran or a newcomer looking to learn more, there’s something for everyone in the City of Brotherly Love.
